I have before me two copies of the cutting-edge Wired magazine, one from a recent trip to the US and the May launch issue of its UK sister site. It makes an interesting comparison. While the original US version largely features long, somewhat rambling features in the traditional magazine style, the UK version is more of a visual attraction, with a busy layout punctuated by the magazine’s trademark graphics. Many of the articles resemble those you might find in a blog, with plenty of bullet points, illustrations of genuine informative value and irreverent comment. This reflects my personal Internet-conditioned short attention span much better that the more in-depth content of the US Wired. That is not to say Wired US is inferior in terms of content and I certainly do not think this is a cultural difference, just an update to the traditional magazine format. See if you agree…
